Sponge Cake - How to bake a cake on a stove top!

By 9:20 PM

If you're someone like me who loves to bake but couldn't because you don't have an oven, then this stovetop cake recipe is for you. I'm going to show you how to bake a cake on a stove top using just a non-stick pot! You will also need an Electric Mixer because you will need to whisk your eggs into a light airy batter. Something that's hard to do with mixing by hand.

This is a very easy stove top cake recipe but trust me, it tastes legit!

Ingredients

For the cake
  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • 1 cup white granulated sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • butter for greasing

For the frosting
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/8 stick butter or margarine
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup confectioners sugar

Instructions
  • Place egg, vanilla and sugar in a mixing bowl
  • Using an electric mixer, whisk for about 5 minutes until mixture is fluffy, light and soft peaks are formed
  • Sift flour onto the bowl
  • Using a spatula, gently fold flour into the egg and sugar mixture (Do not over mix!)
  • Grease non-stick pot and place over low fire for about 30 seconds
  • Pour batter into the pot and cover with a lid
  • Let it cook for 20 minutes over low flame
  • Check if it's done by inserting a toothpick into the cake, if it comes out clean, your cake is done
  • Remove from heat and let it cool for about 5 minutes
  • Transfer to a serving plate

For the frosting
  • place butter in a pan
  • whisk in cocoa milk and sugar
  • whisk until smooth
  • remove from heat and pour over your cake

As easy as 123! If I was able to bake a cake without an oven, I'm sure you can do it too!

My kids loved it and almost didn't leave any for their dad! I just might experiment on a carrot cake next time and see if I can also  bake that on a stove top. We'll see!
